Natural Deodorant
January 2015
Aloe
I can't believe the things I am admitting online sometimes these days. Anyhoooooo
I am going to try a new experiment and thought I may as well document it. Aloe as deodorant. Just aloe for now - nothing else. I vowed to go cruelty free, I may as well stop being cruel to myself as well. :)

Just popped out of the shower with a pretty nasty underarm cut from the shaver, I never put deodorant on cuts like that. So out came the aloe, and one thought led to the next. Next thing I knew I skipped the deo all together and just sliced some aloe and put it on both arms.

I won't say epic fail just yet, but not epic success just yet either. It worked until the late afternoon. I reapplied just that without washing again, which I think maybe I should have done and by morning - well failure. Quite frankly its' the smell of the Aloe itself I don't like. I never really have.

Today I am trying yet another just basic thing. Wash, Aloe and some body powder I found that I still had left over from last Summer. Sure I found all the recipes online for adding this oil and that oil and all, but in the end................................I would have to go to a health food store to get these oils and those are pretty pricey. So I am just wanting to go with the most basic and readily available things I have in my own personal stores and see what happens.

Still using it, though it is failing, or its just the smell of the Aloe, I just can't like it

Vinegar

OK, I gave up, I just can't like the smell of Aloe. Soooooo I have decided to try to give Vinegar a whirl. After I showered, I put some on a cotton ball and wiped it on. The smell almost knocked me out, it faded after a time, but once you start sweating again - it comes back. Whew.
1/24 - Epic Fail.
I went with just Vinegar today, it burned and I was out walking and really worked up a sweat, it got very hot here. Epic, epic fail. I am glad I had some perfume in my bag.
Lemon
1/25 - So Let's Try A Lemon
Just about to give up on this whole natural deodorant idea, there it sat staring at me. My Lemon stash. I figured why not? I put it in near everything I eat anymore and drink so why not? I mean what could it hurt? So this morning after showering and shaving I just sliced a lemon, squeezed it on a cotton ball. YIIIIIIKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEESSSSSSS it burned like there was no tomorrow. I remembered though, this is something I really want to do, so I took it like a strong woman. Once it dried though it stopped burning and was just sticky. OK I can live with that.
1/26
I did not need to use it again last night, but I did and got a rash from it indeed. It was a natural rash and did not scare me to death, like when I get a chemical rash, you know the feeling. OH I am going to die. I knew exactly what it was. I used some Aloe on it and it healed up in about an hour.

This morning I did not shower, I was in a hurry so I just put on the Lemon, same rash came. Once I got home and showered and put the Aloe on, it healed up again with no problem at all. I think the problem is that it is too concentrated just straight off the Lemon so I was thinking of diluting it a bit with water or only using it once a day but not until I have showered.

Cut down to using it only once a day, even skipped yesterday - I just didn't need it. I have not diluted it it any way, just don't use it as often. Pour it onto a cotton ball, swab it under the arms and anywhere else you might want to not stink and you are good. Shocking yes, but true.
So I am done with conventional deodorants. Here is my final results. Epic success :D
So this is one fresh squeezed Lemon in a jar, with nothing added, I found in the 99 cent store. I will only use one Lemon at a time because I know from other experiments it does mold in time.
Using it only when needed or only once a day, the rash is gone and I am happy as a clam.
