March 30, 2012 - September 6, 2012
I called him Mids, other's called him other things. K24. He was our boy as beautiful as his magnificent father. He was the middle Eaglet the second to hatch, he was brave against his older sister - Zilla and befriended his younger sister - Metoo. We all worried ourselves sick about a fish hook that got caught in his tallon, it must have hurt him terribly. We believe the hook came out of its own. To me it never looked to have gotten infected or anything but in any event was not a pleasant thing to see. God curse fish hooks.
He would have been the Islands new King when he found a Queen - that though will never happen now, they found him washed ashore September 6.
To me he was just a bit more than a regular old Eagle, {as he was to us all West Enders} to me he was one of the stars of my story, which is to be renamed and rededicated in his honor, to the life he never got the chance to have.
Rest In Peace Mids, soar high and free and without any pain and know you will never be forgotten :(

Sibby was an extraordinary middle child. He exemplified all that the eagle symbolizes, brave defender and protector, majestic, fearless and courageous warrior. My initial objective observations of this nest suddenly were replaced with an emotional connection with all three siblings, Zilla, Sibby and MeToo. My heart was stolen and my unexpected life journey began with them. I struggle with an immune system disease that at times has been debilitating. I watched MS persist in spite of the hook, hopping on and off the nest to get away from big sis, managing to hold down his dinner with one talon, protecting his little sis and doing what he needed to do to survive. What an inspiration and lesson in moving forward against the odds. I have to accept that I will never understand everything especially pain and suffering in this world. I do know for a fact that Sibby, this nest and my friends on this site have all changed my life for the better. God bless you all.

Midsib will not be forgotten because we were there from the beginning - from the moment that second egg was laid, when it hatched, and when he flew. Our love follows him into the heavens.

My heart aches for the two babies you have lost during your nest watches. I'm from the Decorah, Iowa watchers and we lost 2 fleglings this season from our nest. Both were electrocuted and died about 2 months apart. To make matters worse, Ma and Pa moved the nest across the road and there will be no live cam for us to follow this season in Decorah.
I have been tuning in to a nest site in Ft. Myers Florida. I live in Florida so this is a wonderful alternative for me this season. Because of the differences in climate during the year at these two sites, we have hatching going on in S. Florida now but laying won't happen in Decorah until February.
As you said, nature is nature. I'm just glad we are privileged enough to be entertained by it through the wonders of technology.
My thoughts will be with you this season.
