This was as he /she was affectionately named by all the viewers " Only Child " to me he / she was the first time I had ever started to watch on a daily basis the Animals Webcams online. By the time I started watching he / she had already been hatched and was growing so well. There was another egg but that one vanished before I started watching. He / she lived on Catalina Island.
April 19, 2012 was the last evening I saw Only Child, his / her Mother had for some reason left him / her alone for the night, so during the night a Fox came and took him / her. I did not see it, though when I logged on the next morning and saw the empty nest I knew something bad had happened. From what I hear there is video as the cams are live and watched all the time, I can't watch it though, he / she fought bravely against the Fox till the very end, but he / she was so tiny there was not much of a fight.
Here is the blog comment I made the next day on my Facebook
"Nature was Nature and the Rainbow Bridge had a little Eaglet fly over, last night and a Fox took Onlychild from his nest on Catalina Island. I can't blame the Fox, I am sure it has babies of its own that need feeding. Its just so sad to see an empty nest this morning. I checked in on Onlychild before I turned off for the night and he was being fed.
God rest Onlychild's little Soul, may he soar free now and forever in Heaven with all other Fur, Feather and Scaley babies of all kinds. :( "
