Chapter 10 The Gown
I woke before he did, we were still in the exact same positions we were when we fell asleep. He looked so at peace. The day passed the same as before with just thoughts. I never felt the heat of the day pass as I did at my house. I wiggled my way carefully out of his arms - trying hard not to wake him. I managed to get out of his arms. I looked back down at him - he was so beautiful. I hated to think it but I could see why Lynn would want to make him immortal, why she wouldn't want him after I could not understand. I made my way back upstairs and back out into the garden. I wanted to get a better look at it. It was very dark up there and I could hear the Ocean. I thought of the Eagles and wondered if they had eaten. I lit the many oil lamps that were around and the more I lit the more beautiful it became.
I saw many pots of Cactus and Succulents all around. Larger pots with Jasmine and Rose bushes and in between them, most of them were small bowls of water and bird seed that were all mostly empty. I could hear wind - chimes but could not see them. I had never seen anything like this before. I am sure that during the day there would be no words to describe it. Hidden also amongst the plants were statues of various types of birds and marble statues of women. If I had been alive I would not have been able to see it all so well. "If the seed is gone and the water is empty then I know they have been here, it makes me happy to know they come here and I help them live" He said as he came up and put his arms around me. "When I come out here in the early evening, I can see them, they don't hate me the way you Eagle friends do and now maybe you as well" I had been thinking the same thing.
He bit into my neck and drank heavily, I felt the light-headedness and let myself go and collapse totally in his arms. He held me tight as I nearly blacked out. He led me further to the edge and sat down on a couch type lounge. He laid me down and sat next to me and offered me his wrist, I took it fully. I could hear that he was enjoying it as much as I was. He pulled away, I was taking too much, but the more I had the sweeter it became and the more I wanted. "Christine we should go into town" He pulled his wrist away and kissed me. " We can't go dressed like this" I said, he thought I was going to say something else. " I suppose not", he was still waiting for me to say what I was feeling which was nervous and uneasy.
" I need to go home" I said. He got up and walked back to the edge, he shut out what he was thinking. "Do you want a shirt of mine to wear?" I loved the feeling of the gown too much to really want to take it off. " No" " Are you sure?" he said "Who is going to see us anyway?" he laughed " I suppose I never thought of that". He came back and kissed me fully on the mouth " I will be back in a few minutes" I sat back and listened to the sound of the Crickets and the Ocean together.
He came back a bit more quickly than I had expected and for a moment while he was standing in the light of the lamps, the wind blowing his hair, the way he was smiling and holding out his hand - he took my breath away, the way he had when I first saw him. He wore tight-fitting black and white.
We went down to the bottom of the steps at the gate and I felt him take my hand and hold it tightly. I felt again the sensation of gravity and I could not feel the ground any longer. I felt the cold air across my shoulders. I opened my eyes and all I could see was darkness. I wondered whether I could ever do this by myself - he squeezed my hand tighter. He thought I couldn't yet. When I felt the sand again I heard the Eagles and I could not help but smile. We went to the stairs and got to the door. "While you get ready may I have a look around?" " Please do" It shocked me a bit to know he had never looked around before but before when I asked him before he said he had not been in my room. " I haven't" he said. I still bothered me how well he could read my mind. " I made you, it only got stronger after that night, you could feel me before, you dreamed of me. Once you saw me you could never forget. Somewhere your mind opened to me whether you consciously knew it or not or whether you wanted it or not - it did - and you can't close it, just like I could never close you our of my mind." He ran his fingers down the side of my face " Not that I would want to, but if you want I will stop answering you before you say it" " It's OK", though I didn't like it.
I heard the Eagles again as I made my way up the stairs, I smiled to myself again. I had missed them more than I realized. I could hear them more now, I just began to realize that I could hear everything more clearly now. It seemed they were talking. While I slipped off the gown he got for me, I could hear the sound of the Ocean, I looked out the window at his spot again. My help had returned early and I could smell them clearly, I felt the desire again for more blood. I chose to compliment him again and wear a black and white dress. I heard him walking carefully and quietly around. I knew he was feeling the desire for blood as well. I looked at his spot again and wondered again ' Was all this real, was he or was I just dreaming a beautiful dream?'
"Mrs. Thompson" I heard him say, I turned and looked at him "You look beautiful" he waited for me to say something but I didn't know what to say. He took my hand and stood us in front of the mirror again, I think he liked looking at 'us' together.
We went downstairs and he chose to go to the balcony. I saw him sniff and look deep into the shadows of the trees. I had heard something but I thought it was just an animal, perhaps an Island Fox looking for dinner. I knew that both parents were near the Eaglets so I knew they were safe. "There is someone out there he said. " Someone like us" " There are other's?" I said. " Besides Lynn none that I know of, I suppose thought there must be in other parts. She made me there is no reason she would not have made others, may in other parts of the world. Maybe we can travel the World and look for them on our honeymoon" "Our honeymoon?" I was just as taken aback by this as by what he called me moments ago. "Well and why not?" I did like the idea I had to admit, I could feel the hunger again inside. "Let's go" he said and took my hand very tightly as I was feeling not as strong because he did take alot.
I wondered if I would ever get used to the sensation - it was a wonderful feeling weightless and free. The landing was hard this time, I wondered which I hated more landing on a hard surface or the jerk of the boat at the dock. I suddenly got the overwhelming feeling that I had to see Collette, it was a desperate feeling that she was in danger and I had to see her. I fumbled around him for his watch, he took it out for me, my hands were shaking too much to un-clip it. It was still early, I had to go " No Christine you should feed first" " No Shaun I have to see her now" " Christine please" " No" With that before I really realized what I was doing I was at her front door. He was next to me within moments " Christine we can come back" " No I have to see she is OK" He pulled the chain and rang the bell. Her man answered. I saw the look or horror come over his face. "Miss Christine are you alright?" He took my hand and let it drop quickly. "I'm fine" "Come in, I will tell her your here" I walked in first. "Sir" " Good Evening".
Collette was already at the bottom of the steps. She was alright, she ran and hugged me and pulled away quickly " Are you sick? you don't look well, where have you been? They came here looking for you today" She meant my staff. " She has been with me and yes she has been a little ill" Shaun said to her. "She wanted to come and see you tonight so I brought her" She looked at me then back to him and she thought 'Your as pale as him' I went into the living room and she followed me. I could smell her blood, I had to leave. I sat down and she went to pour us a drink, he was sitting beside me before she finished pouring. I heard him yell in my head 'Don't drink it, it will be like swallowing knives' " Ma'am no thank you - I don't drink" he said. She was beginning to become afraid of him, she thought he had done something to me. " Do you want one Christine?" she asked " I don't think I could hold it down" "What's wrong?" "It seems to be a stomach thing" I said. "You don't look well at all Christine" She looked at him again. She still thought he had done it.
I could feel the hunger growing even more, I could smell her blood - no matter how I tried to ignore it. "We should be going now - she need some rest" he said. " I was planning on going out to see to you tomorrow" I could barely look at her now. " We will go to the Castle so you can see her tomorrow night" "We" she said to him, she was becoming angry with him and that made me be able to smell her even stronger. "Yes, we - I am staying with him, meet me there tomorrow night and we can talk more." I said " Alright" she said. I got up and she came and hugged me. My head was almost spinning with the smell of her. I heard him yell in my head 'Just pretend to faint' I let my knees go out from under me and fall, he quickly picked me up and laid me on the couch. "Get her a blanket" she raced upstairs. He put his wrist to my mouth and I quickly drank as much as I could before he pulled away when we hear her come back down. I quickly stood up, Collette just staring at me. "We should go" he said to her "She should stay here" she said " No I want to go home" " Christine" she said, I could still smell her. " I will see you tomorrow night" and I turned and went to the door and he was right behind me and she was right behind him. "Christine wait" she said " Collette I should go home now, we are not far from here" I said to her "Don't worry" I said going out the door. "I will take care of her it will be OK Collette" I heard him say to her as I was walking into the darkness.
I vanished into the darkness and he was next to me again in moments. ”Christine, what happened?” ” I don’t know I just got the overwhelming feeling she was in danger” He pulled my arm and stopped me. ” You never had a feeling like that before?” ” Never so strong”. He rubbed my arms and hugged me. ” I am afraid it will only get worse – the feelings you get, more powerful more frightening” I head him sniff my hair. ” Lets go, we both need it.”
I saw many pots of Cactus and Succulents all around. Larger pots with Jasmine and Rose bushes and in between them, most of them were small bowls of water and bird seed that were all mostly empty.
